Application

This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to monitor the implementation of a system pilot, and to evaluate its performance through testing and review.

It applies to individuals who are senior programmers and systems analysts who implement systems.

No licensing, legislative or certification requirements apply to this unit at the time of publication.

Unit Sector

Programming and software development

Elements and Performance Criteria

ELEMENT

PERFORMANCE CRITERIA

Elements describe the essential outcomes.

Performance criteria describe the performance needed to demonstrate achievement of the element.

1. Monitor the implementation of the pilot system

1.1 Review the pilot and the support documentation

1.2 Identify the pilot and system procedures

1.3 Supervise system functionality and integrity tests

1.4 Document the findings

1.5 Provide technical support, as required

2. Evaluate the pilot system

2.1 Review pilot operation against pilot objectives, and success criteria

2.2 Review client and executive feedback on the pilot, against the acceptance criteria

2.3 Identify and areas of success, and those needing improvement

2.4 Prioritise, implement and assess, the impact of required improvements

2.5 Document the review process and submit to the appropriate person

Foundation Skills

This section describes language, literacy, numeracy and employment skills incorporated in the performance criteria that are required for competent performance.

Get the work done

All

  • Sequences and schedules complex activities, monitors implementation, and manages relevant communication
  • Takes responsibility for decisions about when, and how, to complete tasks and coordinate with others
  • Reflects on outcomes and feedback from others in order to identify general principles and concepts that may be applicable in new situations
  • Uses analytical processes to decide on a course of action, establishing the criteria for deciding between options, and seeking input and advice from others before taking action, when necessary
  • Understands the key principles and concepts, underpinning the design and operation of digital systems and tools

Release 1

This version first released with ICT Information and Communications Technology Training Package Version 1.0.

Performance Evidence

Evidence of the ability to:

  • review documentation to identify pilot objectives, client requirements and relevant procedures
  • observe and support testing and document findings
  • evaluate the pilot's success using acceptance criteria and stakeholder feedback
  • document the evaluation process, including successes, improvements and impact of changes.

Note: If a specific volume or frequency is not stated, then evidence must be provided at least once.

Knowledge Evidence

To complete the unit requirements safely and effectively, the individual must:

  • describe the current industry-accepted system of piloting methodologies including their general features and capabilities, with particular emphasis on acceptance criteria
  • describe current industry system development and design methodologies
  • explain three or more current industry information-gathering methodologies
  • outline the role of stakeholders and the degree of stakeholder involvement
  • describe the system's current functionality, with a specific emphasis on:
  • system integration
  • system response and recovery times
  • user interfaces
  • the validation of inputs and outputs.

Assessment Conditions

Gather evidence to demonstrate consistent performance in conditions that are safe and replicate the workplace. Noise levels, production flow, interruptions and time variances must be typical of those experienced in the programming and software development industry, and include access to the:

  • pilot plan
  • acceptance criteria
  • system to be piloted.

Assessors must satisfy NVR/AQTF assessor requirements.
